Answers to FAQs

How do I connect my keyboard?
To connect your new keyboard, shut down and turn off your computer.  Unplug your old keyboard and plug in your new keyboard into the same port.  Please note: if the new keyboard has a USB connection it is best to plug this into a USB port on the back side of the computer. However, if no USB port is available a PS2 adaptor can be used (this is provided with some keyboards), simply attach the adaptor to the black USB cable and plug into your computer’s PS2 port.

What kind of connector do I need for my keyboard?
To determine what type of connector (adaptor) is required, simply follow the cord from the existing keyboard to your computer.  Unplug the cord and match it to the picture to identify which one you will need.  The USB adaptor is black and rectangular; the PS2 is purple and rounder.

What do "hot" keys do and where are they located?
The "hot" keys are a set of keys that allow a one touch shortcut to perform predefined functions such as access to multimedia and internet functions. The Keys-U-See keyboard comes with 16 “hot” keys located at the very top of the keyboard (you will find information for their usage included in the keyboard instructions).

Are your keyboards Macintosh compatible?
If you are considering purchasing one of our large print, Keys-U-See or foreign language keyboards for use with the Macintosh computer be advised that it was not designed for that purpose. Our keyboards were designed for use with the PC and offer limited use with the MAC operating systems 9.0 or newer. The function keys and ”HOT” keys will not work but the QWERTY (alphabet) and numbers will.

Do your keyboards work with all computer systems?
Our Key-U-See and foreign language keyboards are designed to function with the following Windows operating systems; WIN 98, WIN 2000, Windows ME and Windows XP on computers supplying 5 Volts current to the USB or PS2 connection. Some computer models such as the Dell Optiplex GX620 offer only 3 volts which may cause compatibility issues.

How long does it take to get the keyboard I am purchasing?
We strive to process and ship your order within two (2) business days upon receiving your order for stock items; however this does not include delivery time. Delivery time is dependent on the shipping method you select. The keyboards we have listed on our site are either in-stock and ready to ship or may require assembly from in-stock components. If the item requires assembly, it is normally completed within 2 days of an order being placed and shipped as soon as it is completed. If there will be a delay on getting your order shipped we will contact you to let you know about the delay.

Note: If the item code contains a "CU" (e.g. YKB-ARCU-BUSB) this indicates that it is an item that is made to order and will require assembly prior to shipping.

How do I get my keyboard to type in a foreign language?
You must change the settings in your computer's operating system. Check the Language Configuration page for detailed information on doing this.

Do I need special software with the keyboard?
In most other cases you will not need special software, most of our keyboards use the standard keyboard drivers provided in the operating system running your computer.

To configure you operating system for a different language follow the instructions in the Language Configuration page.

Note that some languages may require you to install additional fonts.

Installation instructions and driver downloads are available online for the keyboards we sell that need this additional support. To use the special functions on our Multimedia keyboards you will need to install the appropriate driver available in the Downloads page. The keyboard will operate without the driver, but you will not be able to use the multimedia functions.

Will the keyboard translate the language?
No. Our foreign language keyboards are simply a tool that allows you to see the location of the language characters on the keyboard when the operating system is set to the language you are using.

How do I access the third character that is printed on some foreign language keyboards?
Some foreign language keyboards may have three (3) characters printed on one (1) key. To access this character, press the ALT key on the right side of the spacebar (or the ALT-GR key) at the same time you press the character key.

How do I apply labels to my keyboard?
Make sure your keys are clean and dry (using a standard alcohol solution is recommended). To avoid having finger marks on the labels we recommend using tweezers to remove the labels from the backing and align on the keycap. Once in position press firmly with your thumb and hold for 10 seconds to set adhesive properly.
